hello! my name is Shanel from class 3E2. i went to marina square to scout out the dishes which fits the theme of Racial Harmony: "Know your Neighbours" finding Killiney cafe was kind of hard. but it was all worth it! :)
How did Kaya toast come about? well, kaya toast came from our neighbouring country, Malaysia. It is made from eggs, sugar and coconut milk flavoured with pandan. there are franchises of kaya toast cafes in Singapore, and kaya toast becomes more than a breakfast meal. Adding kaya to the bread adds flavor to the bland bread, and toasting it makes it crispy!! butter is also added to further improve the texture and the flavour of the kaya toast.
The kaya toast i ate at marina square, killiney cafe was irresistible. the bread was toasted to perfection and it was neither to burnt nor not toasted at all. just right. the kaya given was very generous and the butter had halfway melted in the bread. The meal was delicious and it only cost $1.70 for two slices of kaya toast.
Other kaya toast cafes that are famous in Singapore is the Ya Kun kaya toast which has franchises all around Singapore. Young all old, Singaporeans would love this famous delicacy with the Malaysia background...:) YAY!!
