Hi all, I'm Eunice from 3e2. As you all know, this is Mee Siam, one of the popular one-dish meals in Singapore. Mee Siam, which means "Siamese noodle", is a dish of thin rice noodles (vermicelli) in spicy, sweet and sour light gravy. Originally a Thai dish, it became a Nyonya specialty that is now prepared by Indians, Malays as well as Chinese stalls in Singapore with slight variation in ingredients. It is served with salted soy beans, dried bean curd, boiled egg, and tamarind, garnished with spring onions and Chinese chives. This dish can also be found in other countries such as Malaysia, etc. I brought this from a Chinese stall, located near Buangkok MRT station. It is tasty and affordable. It cost me just $3 and i could fill my tummy with this delicious dish. Mee Siam is also halal, which means that all ethnic group are able to eat it. I would rate this 8/10 as although it was delicious, it is not the best Mee Siam i had eaten in my whole life. That's all :)

hi i am sivakuamr from class 3e2.this kayatoast, from a food court in chinatown.it is easily eadible and this snack could be found almost everywhere.it tasty and really very affordable.it is a bit healthy snack too.

Kaya toast is a popular snack amongst Malaysians and Singaporeans.its mixture with kaya and margarine served with a cup of coffee would e really mouth watering.it also halal so it eadible by all groups of people.so,do try the tasty and cheap kaya toast
I am Crystal from 3E2. I went to Chinatown (Smith Street) to try the following. Fried Kway Teow

Fried kway teow is a common food which can be found in many places. The taste of the fried kway teow is average.

Thai Barbequed Sambal Stingray

The meat of the stingray in the middle is tender and the top is a little crispy. When dipped in lime and chinchalok, it has a sweet but yet sour taste.

Salad you tiao

This salad you tiao does not include vegetables, but instead i think it is filled with fish meat. The outer layer, which comprises of flour is very crispy and the inside is soft. Salad you tiao can be dipped in mayonnaise for a better taste. I think that this dish is great.

Lastly, i tried the glutinous rice balls in ginger soup.

I bought 4 sesame glutinous rice balls. The glutinous rice ball has a chewy outer layer. Although the smell and taste of ginger in the soup is too overpowering, the rice balls were fantastic.

I recommend that you try out all the food above as they are very tasty, especially the salad you tiao and stingray.

Asian Food

This is called 'Roti John'. This is another appetizer that is commonly eaten as a snack. This dish can be found in many asian stalls. It ingredients consist of egg and bread. It ingredient can be modified due to one's liking. It is delicious eaten like it is or with condiments such as mayonaise or chili sauce.

This is a Malay traditional food. It is some kind of an appetizer. It is called 'Tahu Goreng'. It means Fried Tofu. Its sweet and delicious. If one like it hot, the server will add chili to the gravy. Bean sprout is added in this dish. The gravy is crunchy as it contains crushed, fried peanut. It can be found in many Malay stalls. It is quite common among the Malays. Even other races tried this dish as it is not heavy for a snack.
Hi I'm Vilaylak from 3e2. This is chicken basil leaves rice, 'Pad krapao kai'. Pad krapao is an authentic thai dish serve with rice. The dish has a unique taste of thai basil, garlic and chilli. It is one of the classic and simple thai dish served in any occasion with simple method and delicate ingredients with a great taste. The main ingredients include meat (mince/grounded), garlic, chilli, thai basil, oyster sauce, fish sauce, soy sauce, sugar, salt and oil. It's a bit spicy but it's very nice. As Thailand is one of the ASEAN country thats why i choose this. It is also not very expensive. It cost me only $4.

FOOD!!!!

A good day to all of you, i am Aven from 3e2. For this assignment, i would like to share this singapore originated dish with all of you, the Adam road food centre's tauhu goreng. The crispy tahu and bean sprout Coated with peanut sauce certainly brings joy to those to ate it. The home-made peanut sauce with it heavenly taste, the sauce and the tauhu goreng don't really fuse like fish soup with rice and so its like eating two different things at 1 go. I chose this dish because it is halal and don't contain beef, so this snack can be eaten by all singaporeans.
The dish is not very expensive. Its pretty cheap in fact. $3:50 IS ALL YOU NEED FOR A TASTY PLATE OF TAUHU GORENG. My rating for this store's tauhu goreng will be 7/10 because this dish is too oily and personally i feel weird having two type of flavours in my mouth, with that i will end my post.

I am Zoe Teo From 3E2. Down this week is the Racial Harmony Week, our school had participated actively in this project
in search for different ethic food from ASEAN countries. I went to Marina Bay this evening, 26th July 2009 at "MAKANSUTRA GLUTTON BAY"
to search for the different food.

Satay was supposedly invented by Javanese street vendors, based on satay becoming popular after the influx of Arab immigrants in the early 19th century.
The satay meats used by Indonesians and Malaysians, mutton and beef, are also favoured by Arabs and are not as popular in China as are pork and chicken.

Satay, is a dish consisting of diced or sliced chicken, goat, mutton, beef, pork or fish. The more authentic version uses skewers from the midrib of the coconut leaf, although bamboo skewers are often used.
These are grilled or barbecued over a wood or charcoal fire, then served with various spicy seasonings. Turmeric is a compulsory ingredient used to marinate satay, which gives the dish its characteristic yellow colour. Meats commonly used include beef, mutton, pork, venison, fish, shrimp, squid, chicken. Satay is served with a spicy peanut sauce dip, or peanut gravy, slivers of onions and cucumbers, and ketupat (rice cakes).

I had ordered this plate of satay which includes 10 sticks of Chicken & 5 sticks of Mutton. It had cost me a total of $10.
I find it reasonable as it is really delicious, especially it's spicy peanut sauce. It is very rich with chopped peanuts
and it is not very spicy. I feel that the essence of Satay lies in its sauce, followed by its marination of the meat.
The mutton was marinated with herbs, and it is very important to choose a young lamb because lamb under 3 to 5 months old,
has a milder and a more tender meat. I would prefer the Mutton Satay to the Chicken as mutton has a stronger taste compared
to chicken. I like its strong Herb taste and it goes well better with the Peanut sauce.
Therefore, i would strongly recommend this 'foodstreet' MAKANSUTRA GLUTTON BAY at Marina Bay, Esplanade as it had other
variety of local dishes such as Oyster Omelette, Fried Prawn Noodles, Char Kuay Teow, Fried Carrot Cake, Roti Prata,
Mee Rubus, Pineapple Rice etc...

Assignment - Khairulanwar

Hi, I'm Khairulanwar from 3N2. I did my F&N work as told. I went to Toa Payoh lorong 8 market to eat Mee Soto. It is originated from Indonesia. Mee Soto - the base for this dish is a stock made from chicken and a special Rempah(Spices), which varies from stall to stall. Blanched Hokkien Mee and pieces of shredded chicken are then drowned in this aromatic and tasty soup, and topped with chopped spring onions and crispy fried onions. It cost $2.50 per bowl. For the taste of dish, it is delicious, not salty, not oily and its good for health as it is not oily.

After I had eaten Mee Soto, I went to eat Prata. Roti prata is the Singaporean evolution of the Pakistani and Indian prata, a pancake bread made of dough composed of fat, egg, flour and water. Roti means bread in Hindi, Urdu, most other North Indian languages and Malay, while Prata means flat. It is traditionally served with curry or, more rarely, with sugar. I ate it at Toa Payoh Lor 1. The plain prata cost 2 for $ 1.20? It was really delicious when it is hot and it is nicer eating it with fish curry. There are many other types of prata such as egg, cheese, tissue and Bomb Prata.

CHINATOWN FOOD TRIP.

hello you. this is nicky from 3e2. okay. so i went to chinatown to try out the different foods that are not really that common i guess.

first food! fried kway teow (chinese). yes. it was alright. not that special i guess. looks ordinary.

second! the "salad" you tiao. i thought there was gonna be veggies in the you tiao or something like that. but in the end, it turned out that it was fish meat inside. so i'm still wondering why do they call it SALAD you tiao. there's no sign of any vegetables. ahahaha. it is really crispy on the outside and soft on the inside as there is fish meat. it's nice...

third! barbequed sambal stingray! MUST TRY for all of you out there!! it really tastes good with thinly sliced onions in vinegar i think. hmmm... go to smith street and check it out. it's really... AWESOME. haha. the meat is really tender and the skin has a little of a crispy feeling as it is barbequed.

dessert!! haha. i had glutinous rice balls in almond milk. two green tea and two peanut filling glutinous rice balls. it was really unique and creative! it's like, the first time i tried this and i think that it really tastes so heavenly! soft... then when you bite into it, it breaks and the filling just melts into your mouth... *drooling*... hahaha. i think this is really good. ANOTHER MUST TRY!
okayyy. try out those food at chinatown one day together with me alright? haha. PEACE!

Celebrating RH Food Festivals

Hi all, I am Lau Jing Yang from the class 3E2!! I was walking around my neighbourhood and I just happened to come across a store that sells delicious Chinese food.
As I was having an early dinner, it was not as crowded as usual.
Well, for this assignment, I chose 3 dishes out of some dishes I had, mainly: chilli crab, prawn roll and cuttlefish with kangkong. I would recommend everyone to try these dishes.

The chilli crab costs S$29 each. The chilli sauce contains egg white and egg yolk. The chilli crab was not very spicy, yet it was delicious! Chinese parsley was used for garnishing. The crab meat was soft and tender, making it tasty. This dish was one of the chef's specialities. The meat tastes best with the chilli sauce.

This dish would be the prawn roll. This dish costs S$8.50, consisting of about 8 prawn rolls. The appearance of the prawn rolls are brownish in colour( skin) and white in colour for the meat( excluding the prawns, Chinese leek).
The outer skins of the prawn rolls are very crispy, yet the inside of the prawn rolls are soft. The ingredients used are mainly: prawn, Chinese leek and fish meat. This dish is served with sweet sauce. It tastes best with some sweet sauce. The prawn rolls may look burnt, but actually they are not. This dish is quite oily, thus those that are worried about health problems should reconsider eating it.

This is the last dish that I would recommend to everyone that is the cuttlefish with kangkong. This dish costs S$12.50(medium).
This dish is quite spicy as it is cooked with chilli. Sesame seeds are sprinkled on the cuttlefish. The cuttlefish are no very small in size. The cuttlefish do not taste very rubbery like some do, but it is quit chewy. The chilli sauce contains a lot of shrimps.

Overall, these dishes taste great and I think everyone should try it. I really enjoyed these dishes and hope that others do too :)
Now, I have come to an end for my expedition Thank You!

Wednesday, July 29, 2009

Hey! I'm Andrew from 3E2. On Saturday, i went out with my friends to marina square to get this F&N assignment done. We walked around and finally decided to head to the food court there as it was cheaper there. There was a wide variety of food there and i took my time to decide on what i should get. I choose Laksa in the end. It looked very appetizing on the signboard and the pictures i took just doesn't seem to do justice to that bowl of Laksa. It not only does it looks fantastic, it also taste heavenly! In fact, its one of the best I've eaten so far. It has prawns, egg, cockles, fishcakes, lemon grass and the main ingredient... the hokkien noodles. The stock which is why the Laksa tastes so nice is heavenly. It was rich in flavour, and it really entices your taste buds to have more of it. It's a little costly though, priced at $4.50. The stall name is called "Pong's Laksa House" and it has some long history of selling Laksa. I give it a 8/10 rating. I believe Laksa first originated in Malaysia, therefore i chose this food for the assignment.

F&N assignment- Farah

Hi, I'm Farah from 3N2 and I went to fork&spoon to do my F&N assignment and choose chicken rice because any race would eat it and like it. chicken rice come from China. There are three types of chicken rice, steam chicken rice and roasted chicken rice. The healthier chioce is steam chicken rice as they only use water to steam it. When serving, add olive oil to the chicken.

Hainanese chicken rice is a dish of Chinese origin most commonly associated with Malaysian cuisine or Singaporean cuisine, although it is also commonly sold in neighbouring Thailand, and found in Hainan, China itself. So-called due to its roots in Hainan cuisine and its adoption by the Hainanese overseas Chinese population in the Nanyang area, the version found in Malaysia/Singapore combines elements of Hainanese and Cantonese cuisines along with culinary preferences in the Southeast Asian region.

Hey! I'm Farisah from 3N2. The stall that I usually patronisedsells variety of Malay dishes. You can find from Nasi Padang to a lighter meal such as, Roti John. On every Friday, they have a special menu that is Nasi Briyani that is a DIE DIE MUST TRY!!!! There is Chicken and Mutton Briyani at only $3.50... As for today I bought Mee Goreng because of its taste & the fulfilment of the meal.. The price is reasonable at $3 and it can really fill your empty stomach.

The ingredients are made of : Yellow noodle, bean sprout, chye sim, a few slice of mutton, chilies & egg. Looks can be deceiving but the taste is mmmmmm..... yum!! The stall is located around my neighbourhood at Kallang Bahru. The Mee goreng is tasty and spicy. The Mee Goreng isnt too oily eventhough it is fried. I recomend it to all the Mee Goreng LOVERS out there!!
PEACE OUT!!!

F&N assignment- Raidah

Hi, I'm Raidah from 3N2. Since Singapore celebrate Racial Harmony Day, I was told to do my F&N assignment. I went to fork and spoon. I went there as it have many choices of food to choose from. I bought chicken kung pow rice from the nasi padang stall. I choose this because it is from central-western china and china is part of ASEAN! The chicken is diced. they use capsicum, chilli and mix it with prepared marinade.

To elaborate more on the chicken kung pao, it was named after a court official or "Kung Pao," Kung Pao Chicken is a spicy Szechuan dish made with diced chicken, peanuts and chili peppers. The original Sichuan version of Kung Pao chicken, uses chicken as its primary ingredient. In this original version, diced chicken is typically made with a prepared marinade. The wok is seasoned and then the chillies and Sichuan peppercorns are flash fried to add fragrance to the oil. Then the chicken is stir fried and vegetables, along with peanuts, are added. Kung Pao Chicken is considered an Asian delicacy for most. It starts off with fresh, moist, unroasted peanuts or cashew nuts.

The chicken kung pao is suitable for my F&N assignment because it is originated from central-western china and it is part of ASEAN.
Greetings to all, my name is Nurul Farahin of 3E2. I search all around Chinatown and found a small shop that sells food with a little taste of thai. I rushed and ordered this Mee Goreng Thai style. It might look ordinary but wait till you try it. It packs a punch.

Imagine eating a spicy thai cum local meal and seating in an open air stall in the middle of Chinatown. Imagine the fusion. The atmosphere was great. The food was very spicy although the colors of the food does not give you a hint. The secret: the sauce they used was authentic giving it a thai flavour from the first bite. The fragrants was strong giving it a nice aroma, this was because they add fresh ingredients. They also add green chilli padi which was hidden from my view. This made the dish really spicy but I love it.

I chose this dish as I have always wanted to try a real Thai flavour in a meal and my dream came true although I know that it was not 100% genuine. This dish makes me realize that many ASEAN Countries have unite and some had tried to invest on foods using their unique respective flavours and I believe that this reflects how close Singapore's ties with this countries. This is important as all of us need to wor together so that we enjoy peace and there will be no wars and killings.

From this expedition, I've learnt a lot and I crave for more different fods from different cultures. I truly enjoyed that dish and therefore, thank you:]

hello! my name is Shanel from class 3E2. i went to marina square to scout out the dishes which fits the theme of Racial Harmony: "Know your Neighbours" finding Killiney cafe was kind of hard. but it was all worth it! :)
How did Kaya toast come about? well, kaya toast came from our neighbouring country, Malaysia. It is made from eggs, sugar and coconut milk flavoured with pandan. there are franchises of kaya toast cafes in Singapore, and kaya toast becomes more than a breakfast meal. Adding kaya to the bread adds flavor to the bland bread, and toasting it makes it crispy!! butter is also added to further improve the texture and the flavour of the kaya toast.
The kaya toast i ate at marina square, killiney cafe was irresistible. the bread was toasted to perfection and it was neither to burnt nor not toasted at all. just right. the kaya given was very generous and the butter had halfway melted in the bread. The meal was delicious and it only cost $1.70 for two slices of kaya toast.
Other kaya toast cafes that are famous in Singapore is the Ya Kun kaya toast which has franchises all around Singapore. Young all old, Singaporeans would love this famous delicacy with the Malaysia background...:) YAY!!

28 July 2009

Good day to all, my name is Chua Zhan Hao Jarrett from 3E2. For this assignment, i would like to share with all about this dish from Ang Mo Kio Industrial Park 1. As eating food is one of the greatest thing to be and therefore, I would like to recommand this noodle 'Mee Gia' with 100% fish meat. On top of that, the chilli is made especially by the food seller.
From the stall name, homemade fishball noodle, you can obviously know that it is made 100% from pure fish meat. Most importantly, the fishball itself is very tender.
Though i frequently go there eat at least once a week, you will never get sick of it unlike other fishballs outside. With this i would like to end my post with that everyone should try this tasty and unique dish.

28 july 2009

Hello everyone, my name is Qing Xiang from 3E2. For this assignment, I choose this dish called oily chicken rice from marina parade. I want to recommend this food to everyone because i feel that the texture of the chicken is very tender and is suitable for the elderly and the soup is nutritous as well. If you add chilli to this dish, it will be even nicer and tastier.
Luckily, now is not the busy lunch hour, if not there will be a long queue queuing at this stall. The softness of the rice is also suitable for all sorts of people like elderly which is easy for them to chew and young toddlers. You can also order boneless chicken or chicken with bones for just $3. For this tasty chicken rice, $3 is counted as worth for such a good dish. For this dish, I will give a rating of 8/10 as i still think that the chicken is too oily and not suitable for people with high cholestrol but instead you can drink the soup which have a lot of vitamins and minerals in it. I hope you can taste the dish at marine parade coffee shop 4th floor. Bye
